Congratulations to our girls hockey team, who qualified for the state tournament for the first time in program history. Unfortunately, their draw matched them up with top-seed Duxbury, and the Dragons were too much for our squad this afternoon, coming away with a 6-1 victory. Katie Conlon scored the lone Marshfield goal, which was the first of the game, just 30 seconds in, giving Marshfield an early lead, but Duxbury came charging back in short order, scoring 2 goals in each of the 3 periods.
The good news for the Marshfield girls is that their top 3 scorers include a pair of sophomores (Katie Conlon and Brianna Fountain) and a freshman (Emily Matthews). That certainly bodes well for the future, so hopefully the next tournament experience will turn out more to the liking of the Rams.
A highlight reel from the game is available below, and it’s clear that Marshfield had a number of quality chances to score, making it a more competitive game than the score might indicate. We are proud of our girls team for the best season in program history, and we wish our neighbor Duxbury the best as they continue their tournament run.

Final Score: Marshfield 51, Sandwich 49
It’s tough to beat a team three times in one season, as the Marshfield girls found out on Wednesday. Like the boys team a night earlier, the Rams were trailing at the end of the first three quarters, yet rallied in the final frame to get the comeback win.
Nicole Beresford led the way for Marshfield with 20 points, bringing her career total to 944 points…and she’s a sophomore. Her game is crazy-delicious.
Also, a big shout out once again to the Marshfield fans, who turned out in force again to create a fantastic atmosphere for high school sports. The kids have been doing a wonderful job this winter season of showing pride in their school and supporting their various teams.
A post-game field report from Wednesday’s game is available below.
