The 2008-2009 hockey season has not gone as planned thus far for the Marshfield High School Rams. After winning the 2006 Division 1 state championship, the Rams have maintained their status as significant contenders in the D1 mix over the past two seasons, but this season has seen the team struggle to fulfill their potential and execute a game plan from start to finish.
The good news is that there is sufficient talent on the roster to bring about the sort of turnaround head coach Dan Connolly is hoping to see from his squad. Of course, that turnaround needs to get started in a hurry, or else the Rams–with Hingham and Xaverian still looming on the schedule–could potentially miss the tournament, which seemed unthinkable heading into the season. With any luck, Marshfield fans are hoping to see their boys hockey team get blazing hot at just the right time in the season, similar to the way the Arizona Cardinals have done over the past month in the NFL.
Perhaps the first step on that journey was taken this afternoon, when Marshfield scored 2 first-period goals and earned a 2-1 victory over Hanover. The game was bruising and physical, which is evident in the highlight reel assembled below. MSB commentator Dan Bargar spoke with a couple of the game’s top performers afterward, and his field report is also available below.
